Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Meet Recap

The inaugural Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad wrapped up on Saturday night as three sessions of NCAA Women’s Gymnastics were in action Friday and Saturday at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. The Arizona Wildcats picked up a back and forth win on Friday night to begin the gymnastics packed weekend, before the reigning champions Oklahoma cruised to a victory in the second session on Saturday. Oklahoma downed a field of preseason top-five ranked opponents live on ABC for the first regular season meet ever televised on ABC. The California Golden Bears closed out the weekend with a win in the final session.

Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Session 1:

Arizona, Boise State, Nebraska, North Carolina

After going back and forth all evening, Arizona outlasted Boise State with late surge on floor to win the first session of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad. Arizona led all teams on vault and beam, while the 49.400 on floor capped off the victory at the Maverik Center. Arizona won with a 196.475 ahead of Boise State’s 196.250. Nebraska (195.875) and North Carolina (195.150) rounding out the standings.

Arizona’s Alysen Fears took home the all-around victory with a 39.250, while fellow Wildcat Malia Hargrove won the vault title with a 9.90. Nebraska’s Kinsey Davis won the uneven bars title on the Huskers’ final routine of the evening with a near-perfect 9.975 and teammate Sophia McClelland won beam with a meet-high 9.90. Rounding out the victories, Emma Loyim from Boise State recorded a 9.95 to win the event title.

 

Rotation 1:

Boise State jumped out to a quick lead after posting a 49.225 on bars, which was highlighted by Emily Lopez’ team-high 9.90. The Broncos counted five scores at a 9.825 or above to set the pace in the Maverik Center. The Arizona Wildcats recorded a 49.000 on vault after collecting a 9.90 from Malia Hargrove to lead the team. North Carolina tallied a 48.850 on floor, which included three scores of 9.80 or better, while Nebraska’s Sophia McClelland posted a 9.90 in the second spot to guide the Huskers to a 48.500 on beam.

Rotation 2:

Arizona was able to gain ground on Boise State to sit tied at a 98.050 at the halfway point of the first session of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quads. Arizona didn’t count a score below a 9.80 in the second rotation, scoring a 49.050. Nebraska bounced back after a shaky first rotation on beam and recorded a stellar 49.350 on floor. Martina Comin and Csenge Bacskay led the Huskers with a 9.925 and 9.90, respectively, to help the team move into third place.

Rotation 3:

Boise State took a four-tenth lead through three rotations, using a massive 49.425 on floor to surge ahead. Emma Loyim tallied a rotation-best 9.95, while the Broncos added a 9.90 from Courtney Blackson and a 9.875 from Blake Pascal. Arizona held strong in second place with a 147.07, while Nebraska closely trailed with a 146.850. North Carolina’s third rotation was highlighted by Isabelle Schaefer’s 9.925 and Lali Dekanoidze’s 9.90.

Rotation 4:

Arizona used an exceptional floor rotation to take the win after going back and forth with Boise State the entire meet. The Wildcats tallied a 49.400 on the final event after having a 9.925, followed by a pair of 9.90s to close out the lineup. Boise State couldn’t keep up the pace on vault, but secured a second-place finish with a 48.725 on vault. Nebraska ended the competition with an exclamation point on bars as Kinsey Davis posted a meet-high 9.975 to win the bars title.

Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Session 2:

LSU, Oklahoma, UCLA, Utah

 

The top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners ran away with the competition after starting the meet with an exceptional vault rotation and never looked back. The Sooners led from start to finish and did not score lower than a 49.450 on any event. The reigning national champions ran away with a 197.900 to win the second session, while LSU (197.150) finished second after narrowly edging out UCLA (197.100) and Utah (196.975).

 

UCLA’s Selena Harris won the extremely tight race for the all-around title, posting a 39.650 behind a pair of 9.95s on vault and beam. Audrey Davis (Oklahoma) and Haleigh Bryant (LSU) tied for second with a 39.625. Harris and Camie Winger (Utah) took a share of the vault title, while Harris shared the beam title with Oklahoma’s Jordan Bowers. Aleah Finnegan (LSU) won floor with a near-perfect routine that earned a 9.975, while LSU’s Konnor McClain earned the day’s only Perfect 10 with her stellar performance on bars to win the event title.

Rotation 1:

Oklahoma kicked off the competition with three scores of 9.90 or better on vault to gain early separation over the rest of the field. Hannah Scheible put up a 9.925 in the second spot to lead the Sooners’ rotation. UCLA opened its competition with a 49.200 on floor to sit in second after the first rotation. Utah followed in third place with a 49.050 on bars after not having any Utes cross the 9.90-barrier, while LSU tallied a 48.750 after needing to count a fall.

Rotation 2:

Oklahoma continued applying the pressure and matched its first event score – this time on bars (49.450). Audrey Davis recorded a 9.975 to highlight the event for the Sooners that extended their lead even further at the halfway point of the meet. UCLA remained in second behind a big 49.400 on vault, which was led by Harris’ 9.95 that later went on to win a share of the event title. The Bruins received a leadoff 9.90 from Emily Lee and later another from Chae Campbell. Utah’s second rotation on beam was highlighted by Abby Paulson’s 9.925, while LSU bounced back with a meet-high 49.525 on floor. Aleah Finnegan scored a 9.975 and KJ Johnson recorded a 9.925 to help the Tigers gain ground on the teams ahead in the standings.

Rotation 3:

The Sooners continued their dominating performance with a 49.525 on beam, counting four scores at a 9.90 or better of the five routines. Oklahoma (148.425) pushed ahead of the second place team in UCLA (147.850), while the Bruins maintained a bit of separation from Utah (147.575) and LSU (147.500). UCLA’s bars rotation saw a 9.925 from Harris to lead the group, along with two 9.90s. Utah scored a 49.350 on floor to remain in third place, while LSU’s vault rotation was highlighted with a 9.925 in the leadoff spot from KJ Johnson.

Rotation 4:

Oklahoma finished its extremely solid competition with a 49.475 on floor to win the competition by more than seven tenths. Faith Torrez scored a team-best 9.925 to finish her night in the all-around (39.600). In a battle for second place, LSU managed to rally in the final rotation thanks to a 49.650 on bars. McClain’s Perfect 10 was scored in the fourth position, while a 9.95 from Kiya Johnson and 9.925 from Haleigh Bryant helped push the Tigers ahead in the final rotation. UCLA wrapped up the night on beam, which saw a 9.95 from Harris, while Utah closed out the night on vault where Camie Winger scored a 9.95 in the leadoff spot to highlight the final event.

Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad Session 3:

BYU, California, Michigan State, NC State

 

California ran away with the third and final session of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad at the Maverik Center, posting a 197.875. The Golden Bears were led by all-arounders eMjae Frazier and Mya Lauzon, who finished one-two in the all-around with a 39.775 and 39.750, respectively. Michigan State (196.725), BYU (196.100), and NC State (195.675) rounded out the standings.

Lauzon took home the vault and floor titles with a meet-high 9.975 on both events, while Frazier’s Perfect 10 earned the beam title. On bars, Frazier earned a share of the title with teammate Madelyn Williams and Michigan State’s Nikki Smith, who all recorded a 9.925.

Rotation 1:

California jumped out to an early lead over the field, scoring a 49.525 on vault. The Golden Bears were led by Mya Lauzon’s 9.975 and a 9.95 from Kyen Mayhew, which helped give Cal a slight lead over Michigan State’s 49.325 on bars. The Spartans bounced back after a fall in the leadoff position as the remaining five gymnasts all hit routines to ensure the score could be dropped. Nikki Smith led the group with a 9.925. BYU’s Elease Rollins anchored the beam team with a 9.90 to give the Cougars a 49.075 on the first event, while NC State’s Chloe Negrete anchored her floor squad with a 9.90 as well and push the team to a 49.0.

Rotation 2:

Cal continued its hot start and posted a 49.500 on bars to extend the lead. The back half of the Golden Bears’ lineup went 9.90, 9.925, and 9.925 to push their team total to a 99.025. NC State’s 49.175 on vault pushed the Wolf Pack into second place at the halfway mark as Chloe Negrete’s 9.90 capped off a solid rotation. NC State (98.175) barely pulled ahead of BYU (98.150) and Michigan State (98.125). BYU’s floor team matched its beam score of a 49.075, and Michigan State totaled a 48.800 to slip into fourth place.

Rotation 3:

The Golden Bears brought the momentum to beam for the third rotation where eMjae Frazier earned a Perfect 10 to cap off a 49.300. Cal led the field with a 148.325, while Michigan State (147.575) gained some ground with an impressive 49.450 on floor. Nikki Smith and Elle Beaufait each scored 9.90s, while Skyla Schulte added a 9.925 as the Spartans’ anchor. BYU (147.175) held strong in third place after tallying a 49.025 on vault, and NC State (146.925) moved to fourth with one rotation left.

Rotation 4:

There was no stopping California’s momentum from the start all the way to the end as the floor team finished the competition with a 49.550 to score a 197.875 and win the third session of the Sprouts Farmers Market Collegiate Quad. Mya Lauzon scored a 9.975 and eMjae Frazier added a 9.95 to complete stellar nights in the all-around for both Bears. Michigan State placed second in the session and closed out the night with a 49.150 on vault, which was highlighted by Sage Kellerman’s 9.925. BYU ended the night with a 48.925 on bars to hold on to its third-place finish and NC State scored a 48.750 on beam.
